BeLUG lid #203 - Filip De Laet

In onze `never ending queeste` om iedereen van de club aan het grote publiek voor te stellen, is het vandaag de beurt aan een persoon die al lange tijd lid is van BeLUG, Filip.

In our neverending quest to have everyone in the club introduce themselves to the general public, today it`s the turn of someone who has been with BeLUG for quit some time, Filip.

Laten we beginnen met de belangrijkste vraag van al: wie is Filip?

Let`s start with the most important question: who is Filip?

Filip De Laet, geboren in 1970 dus nu bijna 46 jaar.

Wat is je interesse in Lego?

What is your intrest in Lego?

Toen het huis wat op orde kwam en ons jongste zoontje wat groter werd, was er weer tijd voor een hobby.
Ik heb toen een tijdje getwijfeld tussen "klassieke" modeltreinbouw of een layout met een Lego-trein.

When the house got back in order and our youngest son was growing up, there was time again for a hobby.

I have been doubting for a while between "classic" scale model trains or a lay-out with a Lego train.

Aangezien ik geen zin (meer) had in knutselwerk, was ik na wat zoeken op het internet Belug tegengekomen en heb eens een Brickmania bezocht.
Toen ik zag wat er allemaal met Lego mogelijk was, ben ik beginnen denken over het plan voor een eigen layout en begonnen met 2de hands bulk op te kopen.

As I didn`t feel like in (more) handyworks, I went to the internet to search around and came across BeLUG, then visited a Brick Mania.

When I saw the possibilities with Lego, I started to think about a plan for a lay-out of my own and started by buying 2nd hand bulk.

Na vele wasmachines en sorteringen tot de conclusie gekomen dat dit niet de goede manier was, dus overgeschakeld op bestellingen via Bricklink en ben toen echt kunnen beginnen met de layout: het ene moment wat meer als anders. Vorig jaar heb ik zelfs een heel jaar niets kunnen doen omdat ik problemen had met mijn pols, maar sinds een paar maanden gaat het iets beter en ben nu terug verder aan het bouwen.

After a lot of washing machines and sortings, I reached the conclusion that this wasn`t the way to go, so I switched to orders through BrickLink and that was when I could really start with the lay-out: one moment a bit more then others.  Last year I couldn`t do anything for a whole year because I had probems with my hand, but since a few months it`s going better and I restarted with building.

Wat was je eerste set ooit?

What was your very first set?

Dat was waarschijnlijk de 912: Advanced Basic Set with Motor.

Wat zijn je favoriete thema`s geweest over de jaren heen?

Which have been your favorite theme`s across the years?

Toen ik nog heel jong was hadden we thuis niet zoveel Lego, enkel met van die minifigs zonder armen. Ik weet nog dat ik jaloers was op kinderen die "echte" minifigs hadden.

When I was very young we didn`t have that much Lego at the house, only those armless minifigures.  i remeber being jealous of the kids who had "real" minifigs.

Iets later als jonge tiener was ik gek van Classic Space: om de 1 of andere reden had ik slechts 1 rode (van 6871-1: Star Patrol Launcher) en 2 blauwe minifigs, de rest was allemaal wit en geel. Die rode werd natuurlijk de "chef" (ik vond dat die beter paste bij de 6826: Crater Crawler) en die twee blauwe werden zijn lijfwachten. Ik had vooral kleine setjes, 1 van de grootste die ik had was 6872: Xenon X-Craft. Ik kan me nog herinneren dat ik gefrustreerd was dat de Lego designers er niet hadden voor gezorgd dat die robot niet mee in dat spaceship kon.

A short while later, as a young teen, I was nuts about Classic Space: for some reason I only had a single red (from 6871: Star Patrol Launcher) and 2 blue minifigs, all the rest was either white or yellow.  The red one became the "chief" (I thought he fitted in better with 6826: Crater Crawler) and those two blue ones became his guards.  I mostly had those smaller sets, one of the biggest i had was 6872: Xenon X-Craft.  I can remember fondly that I was frustrated that the Lego designers hadn`t made sure that the small robot could be fitted in the spaceship.

Daarna ging ik voor technic: oa een 8055: Universal Motor Set en heb uiteindelijk voor mijn eindwerk in het Middelbaar een Technic robot arm gemaakt, waar ik dan zelf de interface voor gemaakt heb en ook een BASIC-programmaatje voor geschreven.

After that I went for Technic: with amongst others the 8055: Universal Motor Set, and for my end of year project at highschool I made a Technic robot arm, for which I`ve made the interface myself and written a BASIC program for.

Nu, na de dark ages, vooral geïnteresseerd in City, de Creator huizen en Modular Buildings.

Now, after the dark ages, I`m mostly intrested in City, the Creator houses and the Modular Buildings.

Heb je recentelijk nog toffe dingen aangeschaft?

Did you buy any nice things recently?

Ik ben nu al meer dan een jaar werkloos, dus ik beperk me nu tot het bijhouden van de Modular Buildings: de laatste was 10246: Detective's Office; en die zal waarschijnlijk nog een hele tijd in de doos blijven want daar is voorlopig nog geen plaats voor op mijn layout.

Unfortunatly, I`m about a year unemployed now, so I restrict myself to staying up to date with the Modular Buildings: the last one was 10246: Detective`s office; and that one will be reamining in the box for some time still, because for now there is no place for it yet on my lay-out.

Waar ben je uitzonderlijk trots op in je collectie?

Is there something you`re exceptionally proud of in your collection?

Ben blij dat ik nog van iemand een 10197: Fire Brigade heb kunnen overkopen voor een correcte prijs. En van de aankoop van 10193: Medieval Market Village ben ik ook wel tevreden.

I`m glad I could get a 10197: Fire Brigade from someone for a correct price.  And the purchase of 10193: Medieval Market Village is something I`m fond of as well.

Heb je een `Holy Grail` set, en zo ja de welke?

Ik snap niet zo goed wat deze vraag juist bedoeld.
Ik weet nog wel goed dat ik als kind dolgraag de 6930: Space Supply Station zou gehad willen hebben.

I`m not so sure I understand this question exactly.

I remeber that as I child I really wanted the 6930: Space Supply Station.

En nu vind ik het doodjammer dat de 10182: Cafe Corner en 10185: Green Grocer voor astronomische prijzen gaan. Die zullen er waarschijnlijk nooit inzitten.

And now I find it a real shame that the 10182: Cafe Corner and 10185: Green Grocer are being sold for astronomical amounts.  Those will probably never be for me.

Wat zijn eventuele bouw- of verzamelplannen voor de nabije en verre toekomst?

What are the build- and collection plans for the near and the far future?

Ik werk verder aan mijn layout, zolang het budget dit toelaat; het is sowieso een project waar voor nog jaren werk aan is.

As long as the budget permits, I keep working on my lay-out; it is a project where I will be working on for years to come.
